How to Choose the Right P80 Parts
Selecting the correct components for your Polymer80 build is critical for function, reliability, and safety. As a certified gunsmith who has completed over 500 builds, I see the same mistakes made by first-time builders. This guide will help you navigate the key decisions.
1. Start with the Frame Kit: Your foundation is the P80 frame and the corresponding jig. Ensure you purchase a genuine Polymer80 brand frame kit. It will include the polymer frame blank, the necessary drill bits, and the specific jig model (like PF940v2 for a G19 clone or PF940SC for a G26). Do not attempt to use a jig from a different model; the drill hole placements are not universal. The jig is a precision tool—handle it with care and ensure all locking tabs are fully seated before drilling.
2. Understanding Lower Parts Kits (LPK): The LPK contains all the fire control components, pins, springs, and the slide release that go into the frame. Quality here is non-negotiable. We stock OEM-spec and upgraded kits. For a first build, I recommend an OEM-spec kit from a reputable manufacturer like JSD Supply or Lone Wolf. These parts have proven track records for tolerances. Avoid the cheapest, no-name kits on the market; out-of-spec trigger housings or connector bars are the leading cause of failure to reset or sear engagement issues.
3. Selecting Your Slide and Barrel: This is where performance and aesthetics meet. You must match your slide to your frame model (a G19 slide for a PF940v2 frame). For barrels, you have two primary choices: Stainless Steel or Nitride-coated. Stainless is easier for a gunsmith to machine later if you want porting or threading. Nitride offers superior hardness and corrosion resistance. Look for a barrel with fully supported chamber hoods, especially if you plan to use +P ammunition. The slide’s weight, cutouts, and serrations affect handling; a windowed slide reduces weight for faster cycling, while deep front and rear serrations give you positive control during manipulations.
4. The Critical Components: Recoil Spring Assembly & Sights: Do not reuse old, worn recoil springs. A new recoil spring assembly (RSA) is essential for reliable cycling. The standard weight for a 9mm compact is 18 lbs. For optics-ready slides, you’ll need to choose between direct-mount systems (like for an RMR) or universal plates. For iron sights, decide on a co-witness height if using an optic. Steel sights are mandatory—they will withstand the shock of slide reciprocation where polymer or aluminum will deform.
5. Tooling & The Build Process: You need a reliable vise, a hand drill or drill press, quality drill bits (the included ones work, but high-speed steel bits are better), a set of armorers punches, a small file set, and a nylon or brass hammer. The most common error is rushing the milling of the recoil spring channel inside the frame. This channel must be clean, smooth, and deep enough for the RSA to travel freely. Any polymer lip or debris here will cause constant failure to return to battery. Take your time, test fit often, and function check the firearm without ammunition before your first range trip.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a P80?
“P80” is shorthand for Polymer80, a manufacturer of firearm frame kits. These are often referred to as “80% frames” because they are not yet a functional firearm receiver and require machining (drilling and milling) to complete. This process is legal for personal use under federal law, provided the builder is eligible to own a firearm.
Are P80 frames legal?
At the federal level, yes, for personal manufacture without serialization. However, state laws vary dramatically. It is the builder’s responsibility to know their local laws. We do not ship to states or jurisdictions where these items are prohibited.
What tools do I need to build a P80?
At minimum: a hand drill or drill press, the provided jig, a vise, a set of armorers punches, a small file or end-mill bit, and a hammer. We sell curated tool kits that include everything except the drill.
How long does shipping take?
Orders ship from Austin, TX within 1 business day. Continental US delivery typically takes 1-3 days after shipment.
Do you offer build support?
Yes. Founder Derek Stone and our team provide direct email support for parts compatibility and troubleshooting during your build process.
What’s the difference between PF940C and PF940v2?
The PF940C is designed to fit Glock 19 Gen 3 slides. The PF940v2 is designed for Glock 17 Gen 3 slides. They are not interchangeable. Always match your slide to the correct frame model.
Why is my slide not racking smoothly?
95% of the time, this is due to an insufficiently milled recoil spring channel in the frame. The channel must be completely clear of polymer debris and have a smooth, deep path for the spring. The second most common cause is improper installation of the locking block or rails.
Do you sell completed firearms?
No. P80 Parts is a supplier of components and kits for self-manufacture. We sell parts, not firearms. The final assembly and manufacture are performed by the end-user.
Built on Expertise: Meet Derek Stone
The foundation of P80 Parts is the direct gunsmithing experience of its founder, Derek Stone. Derek is a certified gunsmith with over 15 years of professional experience, specializing in modern polymer pistol platforms. He has personally completed over 500 Polymer80 builds for clients and for internal testing, documenting the failure points, tolerances, and optimal part combinations for each model.
This isn’t theoretical knowledge. Every product in our catalog has been vetted in our Austin workshop. We know that the aftermarket trigger bar from “Brand X” has a .005″ variance that causes reset issues in a PF940SC, or that “Brand Y’s” slide requires a specific recoil spring weight for reliable ejection. This Expertise, Experience, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) is built into our product selection, our buying guides, and our customer support. When you buy from us, you’re accessing 15 years of focused, hands-on problem-solving.
Legal & Compliance Information
P80 Parts operates in full compliance with all federal, state, and local laws. Purchasers of any frame, receiver, or firearm component must be 18 years of age or older (21+ for frames/receivers that will become a handgun) and must comply with all laws in their jurisdiction. It is a federal offense to purchase or manufacture a firearm if you are a prohibited person. The completion of an 80% frame into a functional firearm is for personal use only and cannot be done with the intent to sell. Laws are subject to change; the buyer is solely responsible for understanding and adhering to all applicable regulations before purchasing.

What Our Builders Say
“First P80 build was a PF940v2. Used Derek’s LPK and slide recommendation. It ran flawlessly for 500 rounds on the first range trip. No fitting issues at all. This is the only site I trust for parts now.”
– Mark R., San Antonio, TX (Purchased: PF940v2 Kit, OEM LPK)
“Had trouble with my slide locking back. Emailed support and got a response from Derek himself in an hour. He diagnosed it as a slightly out-of-spec slide stop spring from another vendor. Sent me the correct one at no cost. Unreal service.”
– Jason T., Atlanta, GA (Purchased: RMR-cut Slide, Tool Kit)
“Their ‘Complete G19 Build Kit’ had everything, even the right drill bits. The recoil spring channel tutorial was key. Finished the build in an evening and it eats every ammo type I’ve tried. Perfect for a first-timer.”
– Lisa C., Denver, CO (Purchased: PF940C Complete Build Kit)
